Wash Day September 23, 2014

This is actually my second wash day since last week, I washed on Saturday September 20th and did the exact same process. I decided to return to washing and conditioning every 3 days because I found that my hair was consistently moisturized, I had fewer split ends and breakage only occurred due to my method of styling (air drying and roller setting). I am still wearing my clip-ins so wash day was a breeze, here is what I did:

  1.  Over night Pre-poo: I saturated my hair with my Hot Six Oil, donned a shower cap and my bonnet and went to bed. I was so wrong in thinking I could skimp on the pre-poo process! Pre-pooing has really improved my hair's overall moisture levels, and I think the process has been especially helpful since I have been experiencing dryness.
  2. Shampoo: I shampooed with my Biosilk Hydrating Therapy Shampoo and after using it for the third time I have to say I may have been wrong about this shampoo. I did one lather with about a quarter sized amount on my leave out (focusing on the roots only), then I smoothed it down my braids in an effort to reduce frizzing. The shampoo rinsed clean and my hair was soft and tangle free.
  3. Condition: After ringing the excess water from my hair I applied a quarter sized amount of my Biosilk Hydrating Therapy Conditioner to my leave-out focusing on the ends of my hair, then another nickel sized amount to the ends of my braids. I let it sit for about 5 minutes while I showered, then rinsed with warm water. I really do like this conditioner, my hair is always soft and moisturized after using and it has a nice scent.
  4. Deep Conditioning: Once out of the shower I wrapped my hair in a t-shirt while I toweled off and dressed, then applied a nickel-sized amount of my GVP Conditioning Balm (Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm) to my leave-out and another nickel-sized amount to the tail end of my braids. I followed that with a few drops of Hot Six Oil and a plastic shower cap, then sat beneath my hooded dryer for 20 minutes before rinsing the conditioner with cool water.
  5. Leave-Ins: For this particular style I like to use a few different leave-in products to maintain my hair's moisture levels and strength. For my leave out I used my Ahpogee Pro-Vitamin Leave In because it is light weight and provides heat protection for when I use my curling wand. On top of that I applied a small amount of Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum. On my braids I applied a small amount of ORS Moisturizing Hair Lotion followed by a few drops of Hot Six Oil and Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum to seal.
  6. Styling: Because I use a curling wand to style my clip-ins and will need to do the same to my leave-out I opted to set the hair on Curlformers first to reduce the total amount of heat I apply to my free hair. I used a total of six Curlfromers (3 pink and 3 orange) and sat beneath my hooded dryer for 35 minutes, then napped with the Curlformers in for another 1.5 hours.
    1. Once the hair was dry I removed the rollers and wand curled each section holding the curl for about 10 seconds to blend with my extensions.
Results: My entire wash day took a little less than 2 hours and there was no need to re-braid my hair! My hair was left feeling soft, supple and shiny; and has also been a lot more moisturized. Although I have enjoyed wearing my clip-in extensions I think I may go back to flex rod sets next week, I prefer having my hair out and free and easily accessible.

How was your most recent wash day?
