The past few wash days have been an absolute breeze and this week was no exception. I am still shampooing and deep conditioning twice a week (or every 3 days) but I have decided to post only one wash session per week. I will say; however, the results of my Saturday wash day were pretty good. I did a clarifying shampoo and hard protein treatment simply because I felt it was what my hair needed. The clarifying shampoo clung to my hair and scalp in a few sections leaving me with an extremely itchy scalp and a desperate need to shampoo again. But other than a case of itchy scalp my hair was soft, strong and very moisturized. I even did an elasticity test to check my hair's protein/moisture balance and I am perfectly balanced *does happy dance*.
For this session I revisited some old favorite products and tried a new technique (this would actually be my second time using this technique). Here is what I did:
- I started by parting my hair into three sections: one section in the front from the arch of my right eyebrow to the arch of my left; and two sections in the back, one on the left and one on the right (I will discuss the reasoning behind sectioning my hair this way in a later post). Using my newly beloved Hot Six Oil I slathered a generous amount onto each section being careful to coat each strand. Once I each section was oiled I wrapped it into a bun and secured it with a hair tie before donning a plastic conditioning cap and my satin bonnet and heading to bed.
- The next morning I hopped in the shower and working with one section at a time I shampooed once using my Kera Minerals Sulfate-Free Shampoo focusing the product on my scalp.
- Because I did not want a repeat of Saturday's itchy scalp I made sure to thoroughly rinse each section before ringing out the excess water and applying a nickel-sized amount of Kera Mineral Smoothing Deep Conditioner. After combing the conditioner thru I wrapped each section back into a bun and secured it with a hair tie. I let the conditioner sit for 3-5 minutes while conducting my normal shower duties, then rinsed each section at a time and re-bunning.
- Using a t-shirt I wrung the excess water from my tresses then applied my Biosilk Hydrating Therapy Conditioner to each section from my ears down. I then applied a nickel-sized amount of Hot Six Oil focusing first on the ends of my hair, then applying any excess up the length of my hair. I made sure to comb the product through each section using my shower comb before bunning and applying my conditioning cap. I sat beneath my hooded dryer for 20 minutes and let the conditioner cool for another 20 minutes then rinsed first with luke-warm water followed by cool water to seal the cuticles.
- Using my t-shirt I again wrung the excess water from my hair before spraying my hair generously with the Aphogee Pro-Vitamin Leave In (forgot to include in picture) and applying my ORS Moisturizing Hair Lotion and Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum.
- After combing the product through my strands I worked in smaller sections smoothing and detangling my hair with my boar-bristle round brush and setting it on flex rods. I again used a combination of grey and purple rods, installing the larger grey rods in the back and crown and the purple rods in the front. To speed up drying time and create a smoother set I sat beneath my hooded dryer for 1.5 hours then air dried for another 1.5 hours.
Results: This wash day I revisited some old favorite products: my Kera Minerals line as well as the Organix Anti-Breakage Serum. My hair feel soft, moisturized, strong, and has a very nice sheen to it. I have not used my Kera Minerals line in a while and I was instantly reminded of why I loved these products to begin with. My curls also came out amazing, as usual, and I don't think I will ever tire of this style.
